Vote on Memorandum of Understanding - Trial Block Schedule at BHHS

This Wednesday, 3 May 2017, a meeting will be held at the High School Library, from 2:30 to 4:30 to discuss and vote on whether we will sign and agree to a Memorandum of Understanding. It is possible to vote by e-mail proxy, by e-mailing bheasecretary@gmail.com. If you intend to vote by e-mail, make sure you vote before 12:00 noon on Wednesday, 3 May 2017. Any agreement between the Association and the District is signed by the President. Dawn Bennett is the BHEA President until the week of June 15, 2017.

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

The Brookings Harbor School District 17C (hereafter the District) and the Brookings Harbor Education Association (hereafter BHEA) agree that any changes to bargaining unit members’ preparation time that is not reflected in the parties’ Collective Bargaining Agreement needs to be agreed upon by the parties to the Agreement in regular negotiations to begin in June, 2017 only. The teachers at Brookings Harbor High School want to explore moving to a hybrid block schedule. This includes have a block schedule trial run this spring, 2017. In order to facilitate the potential move to a hybrid block schedule at Brookings Harbor High School, the District and BHEA agree to the following:

1.     Teachers at BHHS want to have a practice block schedule run over two days this spring. When teaching block schedule days, teachers will have a longer preparation period every other day as opposed to a shorter preparation period every day.

2.     For the trial run block schedule, the side by side comparison on preparation time is below:

3.      The parties agree that this memorandum relates to this “trial” and only this “trial” and shall not be used as evidence of past practice or advanced as precedence in any future matter.

4.     The parties agree that this Memorandum expires June 1, 2017 and shall not be extended under any circumstances.

BYLAW V:    Ratification of Contract

Section 1

A contract, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), or a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) must be ratified by a majority vote. A majority vote consists of those present at a meeting called for that purpose and by email proxy ballot to all members eligible to vote.  It is members’ responsibility to see that current contact information is available on file with BHEA.
